Opportunities Aplenty

Mom was out of town this last weekend. So it was only me and my boy all weekend. I loved it! And most of the weekend was cake and pie as I'd say. I kept the boy busy and we had fun. But two times he had behaviors accompanied with hitting and kicking and screaming and disobeying.
The first behavior was outside a burger restaurant. We just got back from a nice long bike ride and I wanted a nice fat burger for dinner. Since we had to wait, Braden threw a fit. He's not too keen on waiting.
Follow up:
The other time was in church on Sunday morning during the singing and music. Sometimes he'll sing, sometimes he'll act possessed. He wasn't in the mood to sing apparently.
In both instances my son yelled loudly and either hit or kicked me blatantly. But I've gotten to a point where I'm no longer humiliated by it. They're just opportunities to display my parenting skills and stay calm. Inside I'm raging, I won't lie. And that might be evident on my face, but I try to hide it. I know my son well. I'm not one of those dads who sits back and lets Mom handle it all. And since she was in Ashland I didn't have that choice anyhow. When my son has a big behavior issue it's learning time... for him and for me. That's just how I look at it now. And when the ordeal is over I praise the Lord.
